VIDEO RELEASE: Coast Guard rescues stranded Delaware duck hunter, dog

November 21, 2016

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard rescued a duck hunter and his dog after they became stranded in a marshy area near Indian River Bay, Delaware, today.

The Coast Guard received notification after Millville Fire Department determined their boats could not access the marshy area, at 9 a.m.

A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was dispatched to aid the hunter by watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay.

Once on-scene, the helicopter crew successfully hoisted the man aboard from his boat and transported him safely to land at around 10:50 a.m.

“The Coast Guard recommends duck hunters and boaters always carry a marine band radio, or communication device," said Petty Officer 3rd Class, Julie Saternis, "Having an ability to quickly notify first responders of trouble is a must-have for safety on the water."
