Scorpio Bulkers Inc. has entered into agreements with two unaffiliated third parties to sell five Kamsarmax bulkers for a total of $101.5 million. The ships that will be changing hands are the SBI Parapara, SBI Jive, SBI Swing and SBI Mazurka, Kamsarmax bulk carriers built in 2017, and SBI Reggae, a Kamsarmax bulk carrier built in 2016. Five crew members have been kidnapped by pirates from a Ghana-flagged vessel in another incident in the Gulf of Guinea. Korean shipbuilding heavyweights have amassed over $1.06 billion in crude carrier orders in a single day having reported shipbuilding contracts for a total of 13 newbuilds. Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has won orders for ten 300,000 ton very large crude carriers (VLCCs) worth $890 million (KRW 985.7 billion), the shipbuilder said on Tuesday. The interim COVID arrangements which have permitted seafarers to serve longer than 11 months on-board ships will end from February 28, 2021, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said. Under the Maritime Labour Convention, the normal maximum period that a seafarer can serve aboard a vessel without leave is 11 months. Fourteen crew members are reported to have been kidnapped from a heavy lift vessel in the Gulf of Guinea. On 13 November, the Liberia-flagged Zhen Hua 7 was boarded while drifting 78 nautical miles northwest of Sao Tome, Dryad Global said. Built in 1998, the ship is owned by China-based company Shanghai Zhenhua Shipping. It is understood that 27 seafarers were onboard the ship at the time of the incident. South Korean shipbuilding major Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has inked a deal to build six containerships for an undisclosed European shipowner. A fire broke out on board a Togo-flagged general cargo vessel which was moored near Elafonissos, Greece, the Hellenic Coast Guard said. The fire started in the afternoon hours of 11 November. Its origin has not been determined so far. The ship — with fourteen crew members on board — has been identified as the 6,500 dwt Al Hani.
