The European Commission has approved a €600 million (about $671 million) Finnish guarantee scheme to support the maritime companies in the context of the coronavirus outbreak.
The scheme was approved under the state aid Temporary Framework first adopted in March 2020.

Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has placed an order for the first commercial unit of a new Corvus Energy high-density lithium-ion capacitor energy storage system (ESS).
Branded Blue Marlin, the product uses lithium-ion capacitor (LiC) cells that sustain very high charge/discharge rates of 550 C peak and 200 C continuous, enabling both energy recapture and fast discharge for high-power load handling, Norway-based ESS supplier explained.... [Read More]

South Korean shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has obtained a green syndicated loan worth ₩480 billion ($388 million) from the Korea Development Bank (KDB) and other banks.
On 29 May 2020, HHI signed an agreement in Seoul with South Korea state bank KDB; its affiliate KDB Capital; Industrial and Commercial Bank of China’s (ICBC) Seoul branch and HSBC Korea.
Specifically, KDB has provided a sum of ₩350 billion, while HSBC, ICBC and the KDB affiliate have awarded ₩ 130 billion to HHI, Yonhap News Agency reported.... [Read More]

The shipbreaking industry in the Indian sub-continent is starting to exhibit some signs of phased reopening following weeks of shutdowns caused by the Coronavirus.
However, the reopening doesn’t mean the pandemic is over, far from it, as the subcontinent continues experiencing infection cases. What is more, India reported a spike in daily infection cases that reached 8,000 on Saturday, May 30.

Qatar Petroleum has inked three deals with South Korean shipbuilders reserving slots for its LNG tanker fleet expansion valued over $19 billion.

Three new electrically powered Rail-Mounted Gantries (RMG cranes) dedicated for DCT Gdansk’s railway siding have commenced operations.
The cranes were purchased as a part of DCT’s T2b expansion program. They are 47 m long, 20 m high and 28 m wide and are designed to work on rails. Being electrically powered they have lower emissions than the Rubber-Tyred gantries they replace, and are faster with a maximum travel speed of 150 m per minute, the port said.... [Read More]
