A Greece-flagged crude oil carrier was towed to safety after sustaining mechanical problems on the Bosphorus on April 12. The 274-meter long Militos was sailing in the vicinity of Beşiktas when it suffered machine malfunction, the Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) said. The 164,800 dwt ship was immediately secured and pulled to a safe area with the help of KEGM tugs. Shanghai-listed China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has placed an order with Jinling Shipbuilding, a shipyard of China Merchants Group, for four open hatch bulk carriers. The 62,000 dwt bulkers will cost US$ 29.6 million per ship, pushing the total investment to US$ 118.6 million. The newbuilds are scheduled for delivery in 2022.
