Work has begun to retrieve around 60 shipping containers lost from the Liberia-flagged containership YM Efficiency off the coast of Newcastle, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said.  To date, three containers have been retrieved since 6 April and there are 59 containers still to be recovered. The three container were successfully lifted from the ocean bed, transferred into the basked and on board the salvage vessel MV Pride without releasing any further pollution into the environment, according to AMSA. ... French liner giant CMA CGM and its subsidiary CEVA Logistics are mobilizing their expertise and resources to create a logistical bridge between China and France to deliver medical equipment and help alleviate the national emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The efforts have already resulted in twenty million masks as well as medical supplies to be delivered to France in 4 days via charter planes. The next step will see CEVA Logistics charter two flights every week to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in France.... [Read More]

Twelve crew members were rescued from a cargo ship MV Bellatrix after a fire that broke out in the engine room became uncontrollable. The single-decker ship issued a mayday signal on Wednesday, April 8, while underway some 180 nautical miles southeast from Catania, Italy.
