PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced an ailing passenger Wednesday from a cruise ship approximately 95 miles east of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District Command Center in Portsmouth received a report Wednesday afternoon from the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas, stating a 71-year-old female passenger was suffering from abdominal pain. A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, at about 2:20 p.m. The aircrew arrived on scene at approximately 4 p.m., and hoisted the woman, along with her husband and a medical professional, to the helicopter. The aircrew took all three people to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, North Carolina, arriving at approximately 5:20 p.m.The woman is reported in stable condition.
