NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard has established a safety zone on the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky, while rescue crews search for missing boaters, Sunday.
A safety zone prohibiting all vessel traffic between mile marker 602.9 to mile marker 606.8 has been established, while rescue crews continue their search for three people missing from a capsized pontoon boat.
Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley received a radio call late Saturday evening reporting people in the water from the capsized boat near downtown Louisville. The boat became wedged under a work barge near the I-64 bridge downtown, initially resulting in nine people in the water.
A Coast Guard 25-foot Response Boat – Small boatcrew with Sector Ohio Valley is assisting local agencies in the search for the missing three people Sunday morning.
