HOUSTON — Good Samaritans rescued four people aboard a boat when they saw it on fire at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the South Jetty off Galveston.
The good Samaritans called Sector Houston-Galveston on VHF-FM channel 16 to report that they saw the boat on fire. Watchstanders launched two Station Galveston boat crews, who arrived on scene around 6:45 p.m. and assisted in transporting the four back to Station Galveston.
“It’s good that we had a quick response and we were able to save four people,” said Seaman Jason Hall, one of the boat crewmen from Station Galveston. “It’s also nice to see that there are good people that are willing to help.”
One of Station Galveston's boat crews stayed on scene with the burning boat until it burned to the waterline and sank out of the navigation channel.
