HOUSTON — Coast Guard boat crews helped a boater after his 15-foot catamaran capsized in the Bolivar Beach Small Boat Cut Sunday afternoon.

At 1:32 p.m., the boater called a 911 operator stating that his boat was overturned and he was sitting on the hull in his wetsuit with a life jacket on. The operator called Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders to report the situation.

Shortly after, watchstanders launched a Station Galveston 29-foot response boat crew who coordinated with another Station Galveston 45-foot response boat crew along with a local Coast Guard Auxiliary boat crew.

The boat crews arrived on scene at 2:46 p.m and assisted the gentleman in re-righting his catamaran. However, after setting sail, the catamaran capsized two more times.

The Auxiliary boat crew took the boater aboard and the catamaran in side tow up to Bolivar beach.
