BOSTON – The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma is scheduled to host a change of command ceremony Thursday at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Who: Cmdr. Timothy T. Brown will assume the responsibilities as commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma from Cmdr. Willie L. Carmichael. Brown will assume the command of the Tahoma after serving as the Coast Guard Academy’s planning officer since 2013. Carmichael will take over as the assistant branch chief for Seventh Coast Guard District’s Response Enforcement branch.
What: Change of command ceremony for Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter, with a crew of 100. The Tahoma crew specializes in drug and migrant interdiction, search and rescue, and living resource management operations.
When: Thursday at 10 a.m.
Where: Pier 6C at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Commissioned in 1988, the Tahoma is the eighth of thirteen “Famous Class” cutters. The Tahoma was the first major military asset on scene in New York harbor following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, taking charge of more than 30 assets to establish maritime security. Tahoma was also one of the first assets responding to the devastating 7.0 earthquake, which struck Port Au Prince, Haiti in 2010. In the wake of the disaster, the cutter crew provided life-saving assistance to more than 350 patients.
