Coast Guard, other agencies searching for man in the water near Hertford, NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for a person in the Albemarle Sound south of Hertford Wednesday.The Coast Guard was notified at approximately 5:20 p.m. that a man was missing near the entrance to the Yeopim River in Albemarle Sound.Watchstanders in the Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington immediately issued an urgent marine information broadcast and began to coordinate search and rescue efforts. A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Elizabeth City launched at about 5:30 p.m., and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City launched at about 6:15 p.m. Both crews arrived on scene by 7:05 p.m. and are searching along with crews from North Carolina Wildlife and Perquimans County Marine Rescue.A North Carolina Wildlife crew had arrived on scene before the Coast Guard and pulled one man from the water who reported last seeing the missing man clinging to a crab buoy near the entrance to the Yeopim River. The rescued man reported he and the missing man went for a swim from the back of a pontoon boat but were not able to get back to the boat before it drifted away.
