MIAMI — The U.S. Coast Guard found an overturned boat Sunday following a boating incident on Government Cut that left three deceased, including Miami Marlins' baseball pitcher José Fernández.
The names of the other two individuals are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Miami was heading out on a law enforcement patrol at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday when they passed a jetty along Government Cut and discovered an overturned 33-foot center console boat on the jetty with three deceased aboard.
Miami-Dade Police Dept. and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) personnel responded to the scene, and FWC is investigating the cause of the incident.
