BOSTON — The Coast Guard suspended the search Thursday for the three missing boaters in Cape Cod Bay after covering 3,879 nautical miles and exhausting all search efforts.

Initially, a friend of the boaters reported to Coast Guard Southeastern New England watchstanders at about 7 p.m. that Carlos Amaral, Dylan Amaral, and Mario Fialho were supposed to come back from their fishing trip around 2 p.m. Their truck and trailer was still parked at Sandwich Marina, but they had not returned.

"It hits home anytime we are unable to find mariners who need help," said Capt. Richard Schultz, commander of Sector Southeastern New England. "Search and Rescue resides deep in the fabric of who we are as Coast Guardsmen, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends whose loved ones are missing."

The Coast Guard and local government agencies searched from Sandwich to Provincetown, Massachusetts.
