Coast Guard, Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office respond to possible person in the water in Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and other agencies are responding to a possible person in the water in Lake Pontchartrain, near the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, approximately 9 miles from Metairie, Louisiana.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office at 3:45 a.m. that there was debris and a damaged guardrail on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. It was also reported that causeway police reviewed video and saw vehicle headlights prior to the guardrail damage that disappeared soon after, indicating that a car had gone into the water.

Involved in the search are:

-A 29-foot response boat small crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans

-An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans

-Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit
