The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has released from detention MSC Palak, a 9,411 TEU containership that lost more than 20 containers overboard in Algoa Bay last week. On 22 July, the boxship operated by Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was released from the Indian Ocean Port of Ngqurha. Shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), part of Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., has received orders for the construction of four petrochemical carriers. On July 21, HMD said it inked a KRW 86.8 billion (around $72.6 million) deal with an undisclosed Asian shipowner for two petrochemical tankers. The contract also includes two options. Singapore-based ship manager Wilhelmsen Ship Management has acquired 50% stake Ahrenkiel Steamship, a subsidiary of Hamburg-based asset and investment manager MPC Capital AG. The joint venture will operate under the brand Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management in Hamburg and Rhoon, while supported by Wilhelmsen’s global network. The Danish government, together with Danish Shipping, the maritime section of the Danish Metalworkers’ Union and the Danish Engineers’ Association, has found a solution whereby stranded seafarers on board Danish ships can come home. Several thousand seafarers onboard vessels controlled by Danish shipping companies are now being given a helping hand from the government to come home.
