The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center (MSC) has issued its 30th ballast water management system (BWMS) type approval certificate to the US-based manufacturer Hyde Marine. The approval was granted on 29 April after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval applications determined the systems met the required requirements. A containership owned by Danish shipping giant Maersk suffered an engine room fire while sailing in the Caribbean on 26 April 2020. Norwegian shipowner 2020 Bulkers has pushed the delivery dates for the last two of its scrubber-fitted newbuilding bulkers for the first half of June 2020. The two 208,000 dwt Newcastlemaxes are being built at New Times Shipyard in China and form part of a batch of a total of eight units built at the same yard over the past two years. The ships were supposed to be delivered by June, however, due to the secondary effects of the coronavirus pandemic and disruption to the supply chain at shipyards their delivery has been somewhat delayed.... Singapore’s offshore rig and vessel builder Keppel Offshore & Marine saw its quarterly profit halved despite a significant increase in revenues. Keppel Corporation said on Wednesday that its Offshore & Marine (O&M) Division registered a net profit of S$3 million ($2.1 million) for 1Q 2020, compared to a net profit of S$6 million ($4.2 million) a year ago. Brazilian miner Vale has decided to phase out the 25 very large ore carriers that were converted from very large crude carriers following numerous technical flaws on the ships. The ships would be phased out through early termination or amendments of contracts, Vale said in its quarterly report.
