BOSTON — The Coast Guard and Gloucester harbormaster responded Sunday to a grounded barge on Niles Beach in Gloucester Harbor.High winds and heavy seas caused the barge, owned by Charter, to break free from its moorings at about 3:30 p.m.The grounded barge is one of three barges being used in dredging operations and has sand, mud, and water aboard.A Coast Guard Station Gloucester boat crew responded to the incident.... BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday for a missing boater southeast of White Point Beach. The search for the man began after he and three boaters went missing after requesting emergency assistance when his boat began taking on water Saturday evening during declining weather. One boater was located Sunday at approximately 6:30 a.m. on top of the overturned hull of the vessel. Four men were returning from a local fishing tournament Saturday in declining weather conditions. NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has closed the Mississippi River from mile marker 771 to mile marker 750 approximately 20 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday.The vessel Cooperative Enterprise was towing 42 barges containing corn or soybeans when they broke away.16 barges have been recovered, 26 barges are aground. JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued four people from Knight Island in Marsha Bay in the vicinity of Prince William Sound, Friday afternoon. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage were initially notified via satellite phone by a good Samaritan who heard the distress call via VHF-FM radio channel 16, stating that a 28-foot Bayliner was taking on water in Marsha Bay.
