BOSTON — The Coast Guard and Gloucester harbormaster responded Sunday to a grounded barge on Niles Beach in Gloucester Harbor.High winds and heavy seas caused the barge, owned by Charter, to break free from its moorings at about 3:30 p.m.The grounded barge is one of three barges being used in dredging operations and has sand, mud, and water aboard.A Coast Guard Station Gloucester boat crew responded to the incident.... BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday for a missing boater southeast of White Point Beach.
The search for the man began after he and three boaters went missing after requesting emergency assistance when his boat began taking on water Saturday evening during declining weather.
One boater was located Sunday at approximately 6:30 a.m. on top of the overturned hull of the vessel. At approximately 8:50 a.m., a Coast Guard boatcrew and good Samaritans located two boaters unresponsive.... [Read More]

BOSTON — The Coast Guard and local responders rescued 6 people Sunday from a 72-foot scallop boat sinking five miles off New Bedford.A person aboard the scallop boat, Captain Jeff, used a VHF radio at 9:30 a.m. to hail watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, in Woods Hole, and report their boat was taking on water.A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Menemsha and a helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod responded to help.... NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two people near the bank of Proctor’s Point in Lake Borgne, Saturday.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 6:45 p.m. from the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Department that a shrimping skiff sank and that two people swam to shore.
Coast Guard Station New Orleans launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew and Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a 67-year-old male and a 50-year-old male approximately 37 miles southeast of St. George Island, Florida, Saturday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received the report at 4:55 p.m. from a 42-foot pleasure craft that they were taking on water.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is searching Sunday for 1 man south of White Point Beach on the lower Potomac River.
Four men were returning from a local fishing tournament Saturday in declining weather conditions.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received several reports Saturday evening from friends and family of the boaters stating a 32-foot fishing vessel, Reel Intimidator, was taking on water and should have been moored up already.... [Read More]

LOS ANGELES − Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach is experiencing a temporary degradation in channel 16 VHF/ Radio communication capabilities throughout the Santa Barbara and Channel Islands areas.
Communication pathways have been impacted due to loss of service through Bald Mountain Radio Tower Range.
All mariners operating in the Santa Barbara or Channel Islands area are urged to contact the Coast Guard through alternative means.

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has closed the Mississippi River from mile marker 771 to mile marker 750 approximately 20 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday.The vessel Cooperative Enterprise was towing 42 barges containing corn or soybeans when they broke away.16 barges have been recovered, 26 barges are aground. The vessels Cheryl and Joe Ellis are helping to gather the remaining barges.The river is closed to all vessel traffic until the barges have been secured.The cause of the incident is under investigation.

ILWACO, Wash. — Two Coast Guard boatcrews rescued three people aboard a boat that hit a submerged object and became dead in the water near Sand Island, on the Columbia River, Friday afternoon.
The boaters were reportedly uninjured and the stricken 26-foot boat was towed into the port of Ilwaco and moored safely.

JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued four people from Knight Island in Marsha Bay in the vicinity of Prince William Sound, Friday afternoon.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage were initially notified via satellite phone by a good Samaritan who heard the distress call via VHF-FM radio channel 16, stating that a 28-foot Bayliner was taking on water in Marsha Bay.
