The European Commission has requested from Italy to abolish the corporate tax exemptions granted to its ports, in order to align its tax regime with EU State aid rules.
As explained, profits earned by port authorities from economic activities must be taxed under normal national corporate tax laws to avoid distortions of competition. However, Italian port authorities have been fully exempt from corporate income tax.

Japan is planning to introduce ammonia as fuel into the shipping industry and make it commercially available in the late 2020s as part of its efforts to go carbon-neutral by 2050.
The solution was examined at today’s meeting of the fuel ammonia council, which was established back in October. The council is made up of representatives from the public and private sectors to solve technical and other supply-chain hurdles to the introduction and expansion of using ammonia as a fuel.... The revised estimate of lost containers from the Japanese-flagged containership ONE Apus now stands at 1,816 units, scaled down from the initial estimates which exceeded 1,900 containers.
Some 64 containers of those damaged or lost are believed to contain dangerous cargo, up from 40 which had been previously reported by Ocean Network Express (ONE), the charterer of the ship.

A search is underway for a 27-year-old male crew member who fell overboard from the Handy tanker vessel Sagami in the Gulf of Mexico.
The US Coast Guard said that the search was underway approximately 29 miles offshore Sabine Pass, Texas, since Wednesday evening.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has placed an order for three very large crude carriers (VLCCs) with South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
The contract is worth KRW 282 billion ($ 260 million), according to the shipbuilder.
The VLCC trio will be compliant with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) 2 once constructed at DSME’s Okpo shipyard. The contract includes options for three additional ships.
