KODIAK, Alaska — The Coast Guard rescued a stranded hunter from Chicagof Island near Juneau, Alaska, Friday evening.  An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the hunter and transferred him to Hoonah, Alaska.  Sector Juneau command center watchstanders received a report of a hunter in distress after he became separated from his hunting party on Chicagof Island.  Sector Juneau watchstanders launched the helicopter crew to rescue the hunter.... "Correction" SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard advises to exercise caution during the holidays at beaches in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands due to dangerous riptides in the region. Since Friday, the Coast Guard has responded to multiple search and rescue cases in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico involving swimmers, beachgoers, surfers and boaters who were swept out to sea or overcome by the dangerous surf and rip currents in the area.  ... The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Dependable, Over the Horizon small boat, interdicts a 20-foot drug smuggling vessel in the Caribbean Sea Dec. 10, 2014.  The interdiction resulted in the seizure of 71 pounds of cocaine and the apprehension of two smugglers. NEW YORK – Coast Guard crews rescued a boater in distress near Bellport, N.Y., who was reported missing for nearly 12 hours.   Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center received a call from a 911 dispatcher, stating that the boater’s wife was concerned when her husband departed at approximately 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday and intended to be back at dusk but hadn’t returned.  ... NEW YORK – The Coast Guard ended their search for a boater who was reported overdue after he was located at approximately 2 P.M. today and confirmed safely ashore. Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Sturgeon Bay and CGC Wire, Coast Guard Sector New York, Sector Northern New England, and Sector Buffalo searched for Ken Allen, 41, for approximately nine hours today after a friend notified Sector New York that his friend was supposed to arrive in Staten Island, N.Y., yesterday.  ... NEW YORK – Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon Bay and Coast Guard Cutter Wire are searching to locate an overdue boater in the vicinity of Staten Island, N.Y. At approximately 8 A.M. this morning, the Coast Guard Sector New York Command Center was notified that the boater was transiting from the Erie Canal and was supposed to arrive in Staten Island yesterday. The Coast Guard established a temporary regulated navigation area Thursday for the navigable waters surrounding the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge in North Carolina. The RNA allows the Coast Guard to impose vessel traffic restrictions within Oregon Inlet to safeguard vessels from shoaling and to reduce the risk of a bridge strike. ALAMEDA, Calif. – A Coast Guardsman was sentenced to six months confinement for Sexual Assault and other violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice during a general court-martial aboard Coast Guard Base Alameda Friday.   Petty Officer 2nd Class Harold C. Sanchez was also sentenced to a reduction in pay grade to E-1, the military’s lowest pay grade, for Sexual Assault, Failure to Obey an Order and Making False Official Statements.
