TAMPA, Fla. — Crews from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla. and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission worked with local law enforcement agencies to keep waterways safe during the 2016 Gasparilla Parade and Pirate Festival in the Port of Tampa, Saturday. JUNEAU, Alaska – The U.S. Coast Guard received approval for removal and destruction of tugboat Challenger under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (FWCPA). An incident command will be established and operations will begin Monday, Feb. 1, to manage the removal of the tugboat that sank in Juneau’s Gastineau Channel Sept. 12, 2015. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard honored 23 fallen crewmembers during the 36th anniversary memorial service of the Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn collision, Thursday in St. Petersburg. The Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn sank after colliding with the tanker vessel Capricorn near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Jan. 28, 1980. The Blackthorn lost 23 of its 50 crewmembers in the Coast Guard's worst peacetime disaster. PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard and partner agencies continue to respond to a diesel fuel spill Thursday in the Schuylkill River near the 2400 block of Market Street in Philadelphia. On-scene cleanup crews have recovered 1,200 gallons of diesel fuel from the river.   BOSTON — A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod aircraft crew flew five cold-stunned Loggerhead Turtles to Miami Wednesday. The Coast Guard worked in partnership with the New England Aquarium and NOAA to ensure the sick, stressed turtles were safely transported to a warmer climate. The turtles, some weighing close to 100 pounds, were loaded aboard an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft early Wednesday and flown to Coast Guard Air Station Miami where they were met by Miami Seaquarium personnel....
