South Korean Hyundai Glovis has signed a five-year contract with Europe’s largest automaker Volkswagen Group for the sea transport of the entire volume of finished cars exported from Europe to China. The deal was signed with Volkswagen Konzernlogistik, a logistics subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, and covers three firm years plus two more optional years. A group of armed men attacked the FPSO Sendje Berge some 30 nautical miles southwest from Bonny Island, earlier today, kidnapping some of its crew members. The news first emerged on the website of the UK-based security intel firm Dryad Global, which cited a ‘high confidence’ report, according to which 11 crew members of the FPSO were suspected of being kidnapped. Estonian ferry company AS Tallink Grupp has strengthened its fleet with the purchase of a roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) vessel from compatriot firm Navirail OÜ. The ship, MS Sailor, was acquired by Tallink’s subsidiary Baltic SF VIII Ltd on 30 June 2020. The RoPax is scheduled to be handed over to its new owner in Paldiski on 9 July 2020. Australia’s Global Energy Ventures (GEV), a developer of global integrated marine compressed natural gas (CNG) projects, and Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited (CIMC Raffles) have extended their Letter of Intent (LoI) to build the CNG Optimum 200 ships. The extension is for six months through to December 31, 2020, according to a stock exchange filing from GEV. Kongsberg Digital, part of Norway’s Kongsberg Group, has acquired Coach Solutions, a Denmark-based supplier of software solutions for vessel performance and monitoring. The new name of the company will be Kongsberg Coach Solutions. The acquisition was finalized on 30 June 2020. Coach’s vessel performance monitoring system was developed by Danish shipping company Clipper Group. In 2016, Coach was established as an independent company – Coach Solutions ApS – which has grown rapidly. Its software currently has over 900 licenses running.... [Read More]

China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has agreed to acquire 70% of equity interest in Singapore-based bunker trader China Merchants Energy Trading (CMET) from a sister company China Merchants Hoi Tung. The tanker and oil shipping giant said the move was aimed at ensuring a sustainable supply of fuel oil and other oil products to its fleet. The proposed purchase price is $16 million.
