The entire fleet of Danish shipping major Maersk Line is to be equipped with Wilhelmsen’s Timm ropes featuring Snap Back Arrestor (SBA), the Norwegian maritime group said. As informed, an intensive pilot project, involving several Maersk vessels of various sizes, tested the product’s functionality, standardization of sizing and compatibility with existing mooring designs over a nine-month period. Several 40-foot containers fell overboard from a barge near Hilo, Hawaii, on 22 June 2020, the US Coast Guard (USCG) said. The cargo was lost from the barge Ho Omaka Hou as the tug Hoku Loa, and its barge, was transiting to Hilo Harbor. As informed, the number of lost containers currently stands at 21. The Singapore-flagged containership APL England, which lost around 50 containers in heavy weather last month off Sydney, has been allowed to set sail from Australia after the ship’s insurer committed to pay $22.5 million needed to cover for fines and response costs incurred by the incident.
