BOSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 12-year-old boy Friday from a charter fishing boat one mile southeast of Block Island, Rhode Island. The boy’s father called Coast Guard Station Point Judith watchstanders at about 10 a.m. from the charter fishing boat Gail Frances. He said his son was severely ill and needed help from the Coast Guard. A 45-foot response boat crew that was already underway diverted to the scene.... [Read More]

ARLINGTON, Va. — Coast Guard Capt. Ron LaBrec relinquished command of Coast Guard Recruiting Command in a time-honored ceremony at the Ballston Common Mall here Friday, signifying new leadership and transition of command to Capt. Robert Smith. LaBrec assumed command of Coast Guard Recruiting Command in 2012 where he oversaw a recruiting workforce of 451 personnel, across eight time zones, at 78 recruiting offices. He led their collective effort to locate, process, and access 13,201 new enlisted and officer personnel for Coast Guard service.... [Read More]

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard continues to search for two overdue boaters, Friday, approximately 35 miles off northeast South Carolina. Missing are Joseph McFadden, 77 years old, and Michael Lawrence, 61 years old. As of Friday at 12 p.m., search crews have covered an area of approximately 6,000 square miles over a period of 27 hours and have completed 23 search patterns. Crews aboard the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules airplane will search throughout Friday.... [Read More]

At 4:35 p.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point located the man floating approximately 600 yards offshore of Punalu'u. At jet ski crew from the Hawaii County Fire Department was vectored in and found the man unresponsive. The man was taken back to shore where local emergency medical services personnel were waiting.... [Read More]
