ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard is experiencing a Rescue 21 outage due to equipment failure from the Florida Panhandle to Everglades City, Florida, and encourages the boating public to exercise caution while on the water.  At this time, the Coast Guard is severely restricted on the ability to receive and transmit on VHF-FM channel 16, and their capability is limited in responding to radio calls of mariners in distress.   The Coast Guard is working to troubleshoot the situation.... FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Coast Guard crew rescued six adults and three children from a 25-foot recreational boat taking on water in the vicinity of the Cape Coral Bridge, Sunday. A member of Seatow Fort Myers contacted Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach at 4:15 p.m., reporting the incident and stated the owner of the boat was requesting Coast Guard assistance. WILMINGTON, N.C. — Coast Guard Sector North Carolina is scheduled to temporarily discontinue numerous navigation aids Thursday in the vicinity of Hatteras Inlet due to shoaling.Recent hydrographic surveys indicate shoaling in Hatteras Inlet between Buoy 9 and Buoy 13.  The current navigational aids in this section of the waterway do not accurately mark navigable water due to limited channel depth and reduced channel width.  Mariners are advised to use the preferred alternate routes known as Barney Slough and South Ferry Channel to enter or depart the ocean inlet.... The Boating Safety Mobile app was not designed to replace a boater's marine VHF radio, which the Coast Guard strongly recommends all boaters have aboard their vessels.
