ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued two adults and two children after their 21-foot boat began taking on water east of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Saturday. At 2:19 p.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, received a cell phone call from a woman stating her 21-foot boat was taking on water. Long deployments, difficulty finding affordable child care and complicated work schedules are all situations many mothers in the Coast Guard face each day. TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The officers and crew of Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City will dedicate a mural to honor the Coast Guard’s Vietnam Combat Search and Rescue pilots, May 13, as part of the National Vietnam War Commemoration program to memorialize the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The 6-feet high by 8-feet wide mural is a timeline of the pilots' activities during the Vietnam War and includes historical insight. It was designed by Lt. CORTEZ, Fla.—The Coast Guard and Mote Marine Laboratory released a rehabilitated 255 lb loggerhead sea turtle into the wild from Lido Key, Florida, Friday. Coast Guard Station Cortez crewmembers rescued the oggerhead sea turtle, Mrs. Turt Lee, near Longboat Pass, Florida, in 2014. A good Samaritan notified Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector St. Petersburg, Florida, of an injured sea turtle with a spear penetrating the shell and was unable to dive under the surface. ... NEW ORLEANS — The 8th Coast Guard District is working to increase safety awareness and enforce safety regulations aboard commercial fishing vessels. In an effort to reduce onboard injuries, fatalities, and falls overboard, the Coast Guard will be conducting safety boardings over the next four weeks and encouraging early participation in the dockside exam and safety decal program, which becomes mandatory on October 15, 2015.  All commercial fishing vessels that operate more than three nautical miles offshore will require a safety decal....
