BUFFALO, New York — The 55th Annual Western New York Armed Forces Week begins Sunday, with the Coast Guard hosting the opening ceremony at Canalside, adjacent to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park.

The Coast Guard is monitoring repairs aboard the liquid natural gas carrier Excel in Homer, Alaska, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Anchorage issued an order for the vessel to remain anchored in Kachemak Bay near Homer after the 908-foot, Belgium-flagged vessel experienced a loss of propulsion due to a failed engineering gasket while inbound to Cook Inlet Monday.
The Excel was examined by Coast Guard inspectors from Marine Safety Detachment Homer, Tuesday, who conducted a Port State Control annual exam and verified the engineering gasket was replaced. ... [Read More]

SEATTLE — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sea Lion, while on patrol in the Strait of Juan De Fuca east of Port Angeles, terminated the voyage of a fishing vessel for safety gear concerns found during an at-sea boarding Thursday.The three member crew, harvesting geoducks, aboard the 34-foot fishing vessel Equalizer was safely escorted to Port Angeles, where the vessel was ordered to remain until the crew fixed the especially hazardous safety condition of lacking a sufficient number of personal floatation devices also known as lifejackets and having expired flares. ... PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard and Navy personnel are scheduled to conduct a joint training exercise with the Spirit of Norfolk in the lower Chesapeake Bay 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday.
The exercise is intended to promote coordination between military units.
During the exercise, a safety broadcast on Channel 16 will be sent to maritime traffic in the vicinity of the exercise to warn boaters of the event.
