CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard is announcing Tuesday a proposal to remove the Fresnel classical lenses from two lighthouses in Wisconsin. The two lighthouses affected are the Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse in Algoma, Wisconsin, and the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. The Fresnel Classical lenses will be replaced with modern light-emitting-diode lanterns, which are more dependable and energy efficient.... [Read More]

Coast Guard offloaded and transferred custody of three suspected smugglers and numerous bales of cocaine to U.S. federal law enforcement authorities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.   MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Kathleen Moore returned Monday to their homeport in Key West following a 19-day patrol. During their past two patrols, the crew of the Kathleen Moore interdicted more than 1,170 pounds of cocaine worth approximately $18 million, detained four suspected smugglers in two separate ventures and were a part of a search and rescue case that resulted in two lives being saved from an overturned sailboat.... NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Station Moriches boarding team terminated the voyage of a 26-foot aluminum fishing vessel near Moriches Bay, New York, Friday. During a routine boarding, the boarding team determined that the fishing vessel did not have any lifejackets on board, a major safety violation, therefore finding it necessary to terminate the voyage. A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew from Station Ponce de Leon medevacked a 54-year-old man who was a crewmember aboard the 80-foot fishing vessel Alena. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watch standers were notified at 7:56 a.m. a man was experiencing stroke symptoms.
