WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard is responding to the sinking of a derelict vessel at the Port of Astoria Thursday.
A Coast Guard incident management team is currently on scene and working with Port of Astoria personnel to minimize the impact of pollution from the sunken Cap’n Oscar to the maritime environment.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a call from port personnel Thursday evening when they noticed the derelict vessel was sinking. Port personnel began taking steps to place boom around the vessel.... [Read More]

A Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced three injured mariners from the 623-foot motor vessel Almasi near the Oregon coast Feb. 05, 2015.
The three men were transferred to local emergency medical services at Air Station Astoria for further transport to Columbia Memorial Hospital for advanced medical care.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew takes off to medevac injured crewmembers from the commercial vessel Almasi, more than 50 miles off the Oregon Coast, Feb. 5, 2015.
The Jayhawk crew responded to provide medical assistance and evacuation of three crewmembers after the crew of the Almasi reported the injuries on board.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard's Office of the Auxiliary and Boating Safety has officially launched its redesigned Boating Safety website to provide easier navigation for recreational boaters to locate the information they need.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard ended a three-day search for a missing paddle boarder Wednesday night off the northwest coast of Puerto Rico.
Still missing is Sheily Roque, 30, who had gone out paddle boarding with Michael Vazquez, 25, Sunday afternoon from Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
Vazquez was rescued Tuesday by the crew of a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter after he was found stranded on Desecheo Island by a patrolling Coast Guard Auxiliary fixed-wing aircraft, approximately 15 nautical miles off the coast of Aguadilla.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — Coast Guard Cutter Sherman held a change of command ceremony at Coast Guard Base Honolulu, Wednesday.
Capt. Aldante Vinciguerra relieved Capt. Kevin A. Jones as commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Sherman. Jones will assume command of Rush, which was recently decommissioned.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The Coast Guard, along with members of the Navy and Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, responded to a vessel taking on water with three people aboard Wednesday approximately four miles east of Fernandina Channel, near Fernandina Beach.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Florida, command center were notified of the situation by Nassau County dispatch at approximately 2:45 p.m. The report stated that the blue 73-foot Helen of Troy was taking on water. None of the crew suffered any injuries.... [Read More]

KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew forward deployed in Cold Bay, Alaska, medevaced an ailing fisherman from the fishing vessel Northern Leader 170 miles northwest of St. Paul Island Wednesday morning.

CLEVELAND – A Coast Guardsman was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Wednesday.
Lt. Sean Barnhill is charged with accessing, possessing, and distributing child pornography in violation of Title 18 U.S. Code Section 2252A.
Barnhill was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for conduct that occurred off-duty on his personal computer. The Coast Guard Investigative Service continues to assist the FBI with their investigation.... [Read More]

Radio chatter, computer humming and constant phone calls leave just enough air space for the serious, sometimes life-or-death, decisions made every day at the command center at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida. BUFFALO, N.Y. — Coast Guard crews and other local agencies suspended their search for a man missing since Monday night in the Niagara River near Lewiston, New York.
The missing man’s name has not been released by the Coast Guard.
