BOSTON- A 55-year-old man was rescued by a local fishing vessel after the captain spotted him in the water in Portland Harbor, Maine.
At 5:15 pm Tuesday, the captain aboard the fishing vessel Christina & Caelyn spotted a man in the water and called the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched a 29' RB-S from Station South Portland to respond.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is responding to an collision on the lower Mississippi River near Convent, Louisiana, Monday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received report at approximately 4:00 p.m., the motor vessel Privocean, a 751 foot bulk carrier, broke free from its mooring and drifted down river and collided with the 98 foot towing vessel Texas which was moored at the time. BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard medevaced a 58-year-old man Monday from a sailboat near Tilghman Island.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a report from the sailboat Savannah Grace at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, stating a man aboard the boat was suffering from stroke-like symptoms.

An MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., safely hoists a 60-year-old man and his dog, who got lost while hiking near Ocean City, Wash., April 5, 2015.
The Aircrew transported both the man and dog to Ocean Shores Airport in good condition, where they were met by Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s deputies.

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and National Safe Boating Council remind recreational boaters of the importance of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons in conjunction with 406Mhz Beacon Awareness Day.
An EPIRB is used to alert search and rescue forces in the event of an emergency. It does this by transmitting a coded message on the 406 megahertz distress frequency via satellite and earth stations to the nearest rescue coordination center, which then notifies local search and rescue forces....
