SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard rescued three boaters after their vessel overturned in San Diego Bay, Wednesday.  At approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a report of an overturned 20-foot catamaran east of Point Loma, with three people in the water. A Coast Guard Station San Diego 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crew was immediately diverted and safely rescued all three boaters. There were no injuries.... [Read More]

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled during a ceremony Thursday to name its headquarters-based training center in honor of the first African-American woman to enlist in the service. Dr. Olivia J. Hooker joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945 as part of the World War II Women's Reserve, whose members were called SPARs for "Semper Paratus, Always Ready." BOSTON - A Coast Guard aircrew transported a 67-year-old woman Tuesday from Nantucket Hospital to Cape Cod Hospital. Nantucket Hospital staff contacted watchstanders at the Coast Guard 1st District Command Center at about 9:30 a.m. requesting the patient transport after heavy weather grounded the local medical transport flight. PHILADELPHIA — A Coast Guard boat crew from Station Barnegat Light towed a disabled sailboat Monday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received notification through VHF Channel 16 of a sailboat that lost its steering capabilities while transiting the Barnegat Light Inlet. A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew arrived on scene with the 37-foot sailboat Leeway II, which had one person aboard, and put the vessel in a stern tow. MIAMI — Coast Guard rescue crews located five survivors from a downed aircraft nine nautical miles southeast of Nassau, Bahamas Monday evening. At approximately 7:30 p.m., air traffic controllers in Nassau contacted watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District command center to assist in the search of a downed single engine Cessna aircraft with five people reportedly aboard.
