SAN FRANCISCO —The Coast Guard rescued a man from a 42-foot boat that was sinking approximately 27 miles south of Big Sur Wednesday afternoon. The solo sailor radioed watchstanders at Sector San Francisco Wednesday at approximately 3:30 p.m., notifying them that the vessel,  named Ment 2 Be, was taking on water.  On scene conditions were reported to be 12-to-15 foot seas and 25-to-30 knot winds. ... BOSTON — Coast Guard crews are continuing to monitor the tanker Chem Venus Thursday afternoon after it struck bottom near Goat Island Ledge and allided with three unmanned sailboats on the Piscataqua River near the Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine border. The Chem Venus began taking on water due to damage sustained during the grounding, which was stabilized and monitored by the ship's crew and Coast Guard responders. At around 5 a.m. Coast Guard watchstanders were notified that the injured man was in need of transportation to Massachusetts General Hospital for an advanced level of care. BOSTON — The Coast Guard is continuing to monitor the condition of the tanker Chem Venus, after it allided with three unoccupied, moored sailboats Wednesday afternoon at the mouth of the Piscataqua River near Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine. Coast Guard vessel inspectors boarded the vessel and determined the Panamanian flagged, Chem Venus sustained damage to its bow causing the boat to take on water. BOSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to a collision involving a 477-foot oil tanker and three unmanned sailboats Wednesday afternoon near the mouth of the Piscataqua River, near Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.
