Coast Guard rescue crews recovered seven stranded kayakers from Burnt Porcupine Island, Maine, Sunday. The seven were on a guided tour when high afternoon winds, ranging from 15 to 25 miles per hour, prevented them from returning. Rather than risk it, they located the nearest island, made landfall, and awaited recovery.With no local assets available, Bar Harbor Fire Department contacted Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in Portsmouth at 12:15 p.m. There, Coast Guard watchstanders diverted a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Southwest Harbor, already underway from another case.... WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew, working with Long Beach Police Department personnel and park rangers, rescued a family of three, including a 20-month-old child, who were reportedly lost in Leadbetter Point State Park, Washington, Saturday.
An Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew landed in a clearing near a beach to rescue the lost family and transferred them to Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Washington, where park rangers met them to take them back to their vehicle. ... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has reopened the Mississippi River from mile marker 194 to mile marker 190, Saturday.
The barge has been re-floated and the waterway is open for normal traffic operations.
The river was previously closed from mile marker 194 to 190 when a barge went aground at mile marker 194.
The barge is being taken to a local facility for repairs.

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has closed the Mississippi River from mile marker 194 to mile marker 190 near the entrance of the Chain of the Rocks Canal, Saturday.
A barge is reportedly aground at mile marker 194.
The river is closed to all vessels during lightering operations.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater crewmembers held a change-of-command and retirement ceremony at the air station, Friday.
Capt. Richard Lorenzen transferred command of the air station to Capt. Edward Sandlin during the ceremony.

TWO RIVERS, Wis. — The United States Coast Guard established Aids to Navigation Team Two Rivers in conjunction with a change of command ceremony held at Coast Guard Station Two Rivers, Friday morning.
This unit will operate, establish, and maintain 290 floating and fixed navigational aids along the entire western shore of Lake Michigan, from Chicago to the upper peninsula of Michigan.

MIAMI - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Paul Clark repatriated 59 Cuban migrants Thursday, and four Cuban migrants from the American Shoal Lighthouse case Friday, to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba.
