SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard is urging boaters and beachgoers to exercise caution in and around the waters along the Northern and Central California coast due to forecasted strong swells Sunday morning through Sunday evening. Exceptionally strong rip currents and large shore breaks are anticipated to impact all west and northwest-facing beaches from Sonoma County to Monterey County. MOBILE, Ala. – Two good Samaritan vessels rescued seven people from an overturned catamaran south of Dauphin Island, Saturday.
The good Samaritan vessel, Sixth Frau, notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile at approximately 11:25 a.m., of an overturned 25-foot catamaran with seven people in the water approximately 17 miles south of Dauphin Island. SEATTLE — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Swordfish interdicted 24 kilograms of 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) and detained a citizen of Taiwan from a boat near the San Juan Islands Thursday.

All mariners are reminded that remnants of the storm can cause dangerous conditions at sea. All boaters should monitor weather forecasts before taking to the sea.

A good Samaritan vessel reported the situation to the Coast Guard, which assisted with stabilizing the situation and escorted the boat and all 13 people back to shore.

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard is seeking the public's help in identifying the owner of an unmanned adrift orange kayak spotted one mile off Leleiwi Point on Hawai’i, Friday.
The crew of a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane is currently searching for the owner of the kayak in the vicinity of the sighting and an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast has been issued alerting mariners in the area to keep a sharp lookout and report any sightings to the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center.... Jeffrey Dixon, set port condition WHISKEY for the ports of Canaveral, Fernandina and Jacksonville due to the expectation that sustained gale force winds generated by Tropical Storm Erika may arrive within 72 hours.
These ports and facilities are currently open to all commercial traffic and all transfer operations may continue while WHISKEY remains in effect. Sustained winds between 39 and 54 mph are possible within 72 hours.... [Read More]
