  MIAMI — Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber repatriated 32 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Wednesday. This repatriation is a result of four separate migrant interdictions at sea. On June 6, Coast Guard Sector Key West received a report from a good Samaritan of a 15-foot migrant vessel northeast of Key Largo, Florida. PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Smithfield man was sentenced Monday in U.S. Federal Court in Newport News for falsifying statements to law enforcement officers in 2014, which launched a search and rescue operation involving multiple agencies. Bryan Serafini, 43, was sentenced to 14 months incarceration, three years supervised probation and full restitution of $117,913 in costs associated with the search. Serafini was discovered when he violated a security zone and was found intoxicated aboard a recreational vessel May 11, 2014.... BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Three people were rescued in a cooperative effort between a good Samaritan fishing boat and the U.S. Coast Guard, Tuesday, approximately 118 miles east of Brunswick. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center received a Mayday call over VHF Channel 16 stating that the 95-foot vessel, Windy 1, had suffered an engine fire which had engulfed the vessel. NEW YORK – Coast Guard Station Montauk crewmembers assisted in disentangling a leatherback turtle in Montauk, New York, Monday. At 1:30 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center was notified that the fishing vessel Captain Ron was on scene with an entangled leatherback sea turtle in Fort Pond Bay. A Coast Guard Station Montauk boat crew launched and arrived on scene aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small. The crewmembers found the turtle caught in a lobster pod line and were able to successfully cut the line and free the turtle.... [Read More]
