SAN FRANCISCO - Coast Guard crewmembers assisted in towing the 26-foot sailing vessel Mimsy after it became disabled Wednesday morning about 30 miles southwest of Monterey.Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco command center received notification at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday that the sailing vessel was disabled and adrift with one mariner aboard.The operator stated the vessel became disabled when it lost its rigging during a recent storm.... HOUSTON — The Coast Guard has temporarily restricted traffic on the Intracoastal Waterway, near Bolivar Cut, after two tow boats allided with a 230-foot dredge boat, Thursday. No injuries were reported.  There are no reports of pollution in the water. The restriction limits transiting vessels to one-way traffic. The dredge boat reportedly received damage to its swing wire, and is being assisted out of the Houston Ship Channel. The waterway is expected to re-open around 7 p.m.... [Read More]

LOS ANGELES – Coast Guard investigators at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach identified and ordered the cessation of activities on an illegal passenger vessel operating in Long Beach, March 2, 2016. The vessel Orion, operated by Angel’s Ashes charter company, is suspected of taking passengers for hire while operating out of Long Beach Harbor. Coast Guard Capt. Jennifer Williams, commanding officer, Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach, issued a Captain of the Port Order to the vessel’s owner to immediately cease operations as a commercial passenger vessel.  ... LOS ANGELES — The safety zone issued by the Coast Guard, restricting recreational and commercial vessel traffic in the affected area has been removed Thursday. The channel is now open to all vessel traffic. The responsible party for spilled oil in the vicinity of the 577-foot cargo ship, Istra Ace, continues their clean-up efforts that began Sunday evening. BOSTON —  The Coast Guard Cutter Flying Fish crew was presented a mission excellence award Thursday at Coast Guard Base Boston. Rear Adm. Linda Fagan, commander of the First Coast Guard District, presented the team the 2015 Chief Petty Officer Andy James Award for Mission Excellence during a ceremony aboard the cutter. WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard announced the removal of Conditions of Entry on vessels arriving from Cuba, Thursday. Following a comprehensive assessment, the United States Coast Guard has determined that Cuba meets the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code requirements established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and has effective security measures in their ports. LOS ANGELES — The safety zone issued by the Coast Guard, restricting recreational and commercial vessel traffic in the affected area has been reduced Wednesday, after clean-up efforts continue to show progress. The Commodore Schuyler F. Heim Bridge has resumed operations and the Cerritos channel has been opened to normal traffic. These reductions will allow access to areas of the port previously restricted and also continue to ensure that vessels do not impede clean-up operations and avoid any possible contamination. ...    BATON ROUGE, La. – The Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies, continues to respond to the Berry Lake Platform Fire near Bayou Sorrel, Wednesday. Response crews extinguished the fire around 1 p.m., and will remain on scene to monitor the situation. NEW ORLEANS –The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an oil production platform fire near Bayou Sorrel, Tuesday. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge was notified at 9:15 a.m., that an oil production platform in Bayou Sorrel caught fire while in the process of being dismantled.  One storage tank is currently on fire.
