BOSTON — The Coast Guard rescued a father and son Saturday after their sailboat grounded near Sarah Island in Hingham Harbor.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Boston’s command center were alerted to the distress at about 5 p.m. after the pair used a cell phone to call for help.
They explained their recently purchased sailboat grounded while trying to take it across the harbor. They were wearing life jackets but had no radio, no boating safety equipment, and no boating experience.... [Read More]

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard suspended the search for two people in the water at sunset, after a tugboat struck a barge and sank near the Tappan Zee Bridge Saturday morning.

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews from Air Station Elizabeth City flew in formation Wednesday near the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills in honor of the Coast Guard's aviation program's centennial anniversary.
The Coast Guard has strong connections to the Wright Brothers' first flight, as crews from the U.S. Life-Saving Service assisted the brothers, making them the first aircraft ground crew.

NEW YORK — Coast Guard and local partner agency crews are searching for two people in the water after a tugboat struck a barge and sank near the Tappan Zee Bridge Saturday morning.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York received notification at 5:20 a.m., Saturday of the 90-foot tugboat Specialist, striking a barge and sinking with three people aboard near the Tappan Zee Bridge.

HOUSTON — Coast Guard aircrews are bringing a 66-year-old man to the hospital from the Carnival cruise ship Triumph, which is about 200 miles southeast of Galveston Friday night.
At approximately 4 p.m., the captain of the Triumph called Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders and stated that a passenger had suffered a heart attack while over 260 miles from shore.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — Lt. Cmdr. Todd Wimmer relieved Lt. Cmdr. Clay McKinney as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit in Honolulu during a change of command ceremony Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a request at 8:39 a.m., for assistance in rescuing victims of flooding in the cities around Washington Parish. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist with rescues.
The Coast Guard has received reports that multiple people may be stranded on rooftops due to flooding around the Muster Ground Creek and Pearl River area.
