ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Coast Guard is responding to a fuel spill at Lock and Dam 27 on the Mississippi River near Granite City, Missouri, Thursday. A vessel transiting the lock and dam was reportedly damaged, rupturing a fuel tank. The fuel tank holds approximately 20,000 gallons, which is reportedly contained in the lock and dam. The Mississippi River is closed at Lock and Dam 27 until clean-up operations are complete. The cause of the incident is under investigation. ... [Read More]

The National Weather Service is estimating wind gusts as strong as 60 knots and waves as large as 26 feet in some areas. BOSTON — The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane towed the 95-foot fishing vessel Megan Marie after it became disabled Saturday about 200 miles southeast of Cape Cod. Watchstanders at the First Coast Guard District Command Center received notification at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday that the Megan Marie, homeported out of New Bedford, had a fouled propeller and was in need of assistance with five people aboard.
