NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a tow vessel that partially sank in the Intracoastal Waterway near Barataria, Louisiana, Sunday. The tow vessel Ally Kat is partially submerged at mile marker 10 on the ICW, and is estimated to have discharged approximately 200 gallons of oily bilge water. Responders on scene deployed boom around the Ally Kat in an effort to contain any further oily bilge water discharge. The Ally Kat contains about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel, however none has reportedly leaked at this time.... [Read More]

HOBUCKEN, N.C. — The Coast Guard rescued a 65-year-old man Saturday who was aboard a sailboat 25 miles east of Hobucken. Watchstanders at Sector North Carolina received a report at 5:30 p.m. Saturday that a man aboard the 24-foot sailboat Patty Kate was beset by weather. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Hobucken launched at 6 p.m. to assist the man. The boat crew arrived on scene at 7 p.m. and towed the vessel to R. E. A father of one of the mariners notified Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound that the 50-foot long liner Long Shot was burning near Fisher’s Island. Mile marker 395 to 400 of the Intracoastal Waterway is currently under a one-way traffic restriction, which was put in place by the Coast Guard, when the incident took place, Friday. The Coast Guard plans to re-open the waterway to normal traffic when the truck, which is considered a potential hazard to navigation, is removed. There are no reports of pollution in the water.... A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay, pulled the four people, who were not wearing lifejackets, off the hull of the overturned 18-foot aluminum boat and transported them to the nearby Coast Guard station where they were met by emergency medical services, who treated them for minor injuries and transported them to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital.... HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to a disabled and adrift 41-foot sailing vessel with two adults and one teenager aboard, 40 miles south of High Island, Bolivar Peninsula, Texas, Saturday morning. The captain of the sailing vessel, Homer Odyssey, called Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders via VHF-FM channel 16, reporting the vessel had lost engine power, the mast was down, and they were drifting toward severe weather, at about 6:30 a.m....
