NEW YORK – The Coast Guard monitored the hoist of the tugboat Specialist near the Tappan Zee Bridge today. The Specialist was part of a three-tug group that was pushing a crane barge south on the Hudson River. The 84-foot long vessel struck a stationary barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge at approximately 5:30 a.m., March 12, 2016 and sank in 40 feet of water within a short period of time. ... [Read More]

WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced an injured 16-year-old teen after he reportedly fell 150 to 200 feet while hiking near the Multnomah Falls, Wednesday. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria in Warrenton safely transported the hiker to waiting medical personnel at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.  An off duty paramedic and emergency room doctor happened to be hiking in the area and were able to stabilize the teen on the cliffside.... BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard rescued three boaters Wednesday from the Potomac River near Alexandria, Va. A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Washington was already underway when they heard a call for assistance over VHF marine radio channel 16 at approximately 3 p.m. The crew diverted from their mission and arrived on scene within a couple of minutes where a 25-foot sailboat capsized, and three boaters were in the water.
