CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing 21-year-old kayaker who was last seen in the water near Holly Beach, Thursday morning. Missing is Adrian Garcia. He was last seen wearing a red shirt. At 11 a.m. Thursday, Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watch standers received a call from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stating they received a report of a kayaker having a hard time making it back to shore and they were launching an asset to assist. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard Cutter Richard Dixon returned 14 Dominicans to the Dominican Republic Friday, after a boat carrying 17 Dominicans and three Indians was interdicted in the Mona Passage Wednesday just off the coast of Aguada, Puerto Rico. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico is filing a criminal complaint against three Dominican men traveling with the group facing potential criminal prosecution for attempted illegal re-entry into the United States.... MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Charles Sexton, a 154-foot fast response cutter, repatriated 10 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Friday. These repatriations are a result of two separate migrant interdictions at sea within the last week in the south Florida Straits. In each instance, the Coast Guard helped secure the U.S. border and prevented these perilous sea voyages from ending in tragedy.... [Read More]

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Representatives with the U.S. Coast Guard, City of Muskegon and Muskegon County response agencies met in Muskegon recently to discuss a Coast Guard proposal to optimize its response capabilities by adjusting how it operates Coast Guard Station Muskegon, starting in the fall of 2016. Under the proposed plan, Station Muskegon will remain staffed with response crews Friday through Sunday during the summer months and will operate and respond from its parent unit only 12 nautical miles away by boat in Grand Haven, Michigan, on other days. ...  LOS ANGELES – Coast Guard responded to a boater in distress approximately 5 miles near Anacapa Island, Friday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a Mayday call at 7:30 a.m. from a boater stating his vessel was disabled and the engine was smoking. The Coast Guard sent out a broadcast notice to mariners in the area and the good Samaritan vessel, Fanatic, quickly arrived on scene to assist the vessel.... [Read More]
