NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing boater near Pensacola, Florida, Thursday. The search for James Bradley Gunther, 62, was suspended at 12:10 p.m. after two days of searching 1,173 square miles. CLEARWATER, Fla.- The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen after their 36-foot boat began taking on water 20 miles west of Anclote River, Florida, Thursday. Rescued were Michael Westfall and William Alley operating out of Tarpon Springs, Florida At 7:53 a.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida, received a mayday call via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 reporting two people on the commercial fishing boat, Nomad, were unable to keep up with flooding water....       SAN DIEGO – The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than 14 tons of cocaine Thursday, at San Diego’s Broadway Pier. The drugs were seized in the Eastern Pacific Ocean drug transit zone off the coast of Central and South America.  The haul represented 13 vessel interdictions and one bale recovery between late January and early March by the Coast Guard Cutters Bertholf and Valiant, and the USS Lassen with a Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment aboard.... These repatriations are a result of two separate migrant interdictions at sea within the last week in the south Florida Straits. In each instance, the Coast Guard helped secure the U.S. border and prevented these perilous sea voyages from ending in tragedy.... Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a report Monday at 4:44 a.m. that the 53-foot sailing vessel Kalani was disabled with a broken rudder, in rough weather conditions, 170 miles west of San Francisco. An Incident Command Post has been established at Marine Safety Unit Paducah. Lt. Cmdr. Heather Stratton is the Incident Commander. In the initial press release, it was stated that the closure was from mile marker 44 to mile marker 30 on the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River is now closed to all traffic from mile marker 44 to mile marker 20, with the exception of authorized vessels involved in the incident.... [Read More]
