FOLLY ISLAND, S.C. — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing kayaker off the coast of Folly Island, at approximately 4 p.m., Monday, pending any new developments. The Coast Guard has been searching since Saturday evening when Dean Britt, 22 years old, and Logan Brown, 21 years old, were reported missing. Logan Brown was located alive on Sunday afternoon approximately two miles off Kiawah Island. Coast Guard search efforts covered more than 2,800 square miles in cooperation with more than 15 state and local agencies.... [Read More]

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard has disestablished the safety zone for the entrance of the Santa Cruz Harbor Thursday, but significant shoaling in the area is still present and boaters should continue to use caution.  The shoal sizes and their dynamic movement are difficult to track and have historically created hazardous conditions within the channel, such as breaking surf. Someone aboard the Whiskey Rose sent a distress hail at 7:40 p.m. Sunday via VHF-FM channel 16 to Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Northern New England. The man reported the name of their vessel and said they were taking on water. The transmission was lost prior to him passing his geographical location and there has been no additional contact.... Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a report from Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C., stating they heard a mayday call over the radio from a person aboard a capsized sailboat. A boat crew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small was already on the water training and diverted to respond. Two people were pulled from the water and taken to Washington Sailing Marina.
