NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard continues to respond to an allision resulting in a multiple barge breakaway and two sunken barges on the Mississippi River near Thebes, Illinois, Saturday. Salvage operations for the barge resting against the Thebes Railroad Bridge began Saturday morning. The barge was recovered Saturday afternoon and moved outside the channel. A salvage plan is being reviewed for the remaining sunken barge.... [Read More]

LOS ANGELES –– The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Dive Unit in coordination with Coast Guard units from Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach recovered the body of a man matching the description of the diver reported missing Friday evening.The diver was reported missing at 9 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 from his vessel found anchored 500 yards off Rancho Palos Verdes coast.The Coast Guard cannot confirm the identity of the body found until a medical examiner makes positive identification. ... FANADIK, Micronesia (April 7, 2016) Two men wave life jackets and look on as a U.S. Navy P-8A maritime surveillance aircraft discovers them on the uninhabited island of Fanadik. Three days earlier, the three's 19-foot skiff capsized after setting out to sea from Pulap, FSM. The P-8A, attached to Patrol Squadron (VP) 5, and operating from Misawa, Japan, responded to a call for assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard and located the men as they waved life jackets and stood next to a large "help" sign made of palm leaves. ...
