LOS ANGELES -- The Coast Guard continues an active search for boater reported missing from his vessel at 9 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 near Rancho Palos Verdes.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification of an anchored vessel 500 yards off Rancho Palos Verdes coast left unattended with personal effects onboard.The individual aboard is reported as a white male, 6-foot 2-inches tall, 220 pounds, red hair and blue eyes.The individual was last reported free diving in the area and wearing a wet suit.... SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard Cutter Winslow Griesser returned nine Dominicans and five Brazilians to the Dominican Republic Friday, after a boat carrying 22 migrants was interdicted by Caribbean Border Interagency Group law enforcement authorities Tuesday near Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico is filing a criminal complaint against three Dominicans and four Brazilians traveling with the group, who are facing potential criminal prosecution for attempted illegal re-entry into the United States.... NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard continues to respond to an allision resulting in a multiple barge breakaway and two sunken barges on the Mississippi River near Thebes, Illinois. The Captain of the Port Ohio Valley is allowing towing vessels, with reduced tow sizes, to transit the safety zone during daylight hours via one-way traffic, after they coordinate the transit with Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah at (270)994-7383. A safety zone will remain in place from mile marker 44 to mile marker 40 until the sunken barges are salvaged.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — Three men who were stranded on an uninhabited Pacific island for three days are safe, Thursday, after using palm fronds to spell the word "help" in the sand. A Navy P-8 Madfox 807 aircrew from Misawa Air Base in Japan was conducting a search pattern for the missing mariners when they spotted survivors holding lifejackets and their makeshift sign. This information was relayed back to search and rescue watchstanders in Guam and shared with the family. The survivors were then picked up and transferred by a local small boat to Pulap....
