SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Puerto Rico Fire Department extinguished the fire on the passenger vessel ferry Caribbean Fantasy using 3,000 gallons of seawater from the San Juan Harbor around 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Unified Command is establishing mechanical ventilation to circulate air through the vessel. A marine chemist will certify that the vessel is safe for access by salvage crews to facilitate overhaul of the vessel, removal of cargo and continuing salvage operations.... [Read More]

NEWPORT — A Coast Guardsman from Station Yaquina Bay assisted mariners near the South Beach boat ramp in Newport, Ore., Saturday, when one person fell in the water.
After bringing the subject and the vessel safely to the pier, the Coast Guard crew assessed his condition and left him in the care of family members.
Coast Guard Sector North Bend watchstanders were notified by one of the Station Yaquina Bay crewmembers at approximately 3 p.m., that a pleasure craft was 20 feet from the pier with three people aboard and one clinging to the side of the boat.... [Read More]

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Following an incident in Frankfort, Mich., Sunday morning, the Coast Guard is urging the public to stay off breakwalls, jetties and low piers as hazardous weather passes through the area.

BOSTON — The Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a 37-foot Cape Ann Harbor Cruise vessel taking on water, in the vicinity of Brace Cove, outside of Gloucester Harbor, Saturday.
At 4:34 p.m. Saturday, watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Boston command center received a mayday call from the captain of the 37-foot Cape Ann Harbor Tour boat, King Eider. NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Fire Island rescue crew medically evacuated a woman near Fire Island Inlet, Saturday.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification at 3:14 p.m., from a 20-foot pleasure craft that reported they had an unconscious adult female aboard.
Coast Guard Station Fire Island watchstandards contacted the vessel via Channel 16 and diverted a Fire Island 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat (RB-S) from a training exercise with a Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel to assist.

Boating near Clatsop Spit can be treacherous, due to dangerously shallow breakwater at the mouth of the Columbia River.

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for a person in the water in Kentucky Lake, Kentucky.
Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley received a report at 6:20 p.m. that David Thais, a 53-year-old male, had been seen not resurfacing after entering the water.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The passenger ferry vessel Caribbean Fantasy was refloated around 10 p.m. Friday by shifting sea state and is holding position approximately four miles north of Punta Salinas.
A tow line was established around 2 a.m. Saturday by tug boats. Salvage teams are monitoring the tow line.
Dive teams inspected the vessel's hull around 8 a.m. Saturday and reported no significant damage.... [Read More]

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Salvage and fire fighting teams boarded the 561-foot passenger ferry vessel Caribbean Fantasy Friday morning and located the two missing pets deceased near the vessels disembarkation area.

At about 4:43 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector South Eastern New England received a distress call from the master of the 35-foot pleasure craft Angler, stating there was a fire aboard the vessel with four people aboard. HONOLULU — The Coast Guard safely towed a disabled 46-foot commercial fishing vessel with three persons aboard back to the Port of Honolulu, Friday.
A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Honolulu relieved the USCGC Kittiwake (WPB 87316) in towing the vessel at the entrance of the Port of Honolulu and brought them safely to the pier.... [Read More]
