SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Puerto Rico Fire Department extinguished the fire on the passenger vessel ferry Caribbean Fantasy using 3,000 gallons of seawater from the San Juan Harbor around 6 p.m. Saturday. The Unified Command is establishing mechanical ventilation to circulate air through the vessel. A marine chemist will certify that the vessel is safe for access by salvage crews to facilitate overhaul of the vessel, removal of cargo and continuing salvage operations.... [Read More]

NEWPORT — A Coast Guardsman from Station Yaquina Bay assisted mariners near the South Beach boat ramp in Newport, Ore., Saturday, when one person fell in the water. After bringing the subject and the vessel safely to the pier, the Coast Guard crew assessed his condition and left him in the care of family members. Coast Guard Sector North Bend watchstanders were notified by one of the Station Yaquina Bay crewmembers at approximately 3 p.m., that a pleasure craft was 20 feet from the pier with three people aboard and one clinging to the side of the boat....   BOSTON — The Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a 37-foot Cape Ann Harbor Cruise vessel taking on water, in the vicinity of Brace Cove, outside of Gloucester Harbor, Saturday. At 4:34 p.m. Saturday, watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Boston command center received a mayday call from the captain of the 37-foot Cape Ann Harbor Tour boat, King Eider. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The passenger ferry vessel Caribbean Fantasy was refloated around 10 p.m. Friday by shifting sea state and is holding position approximately four miles north of Punta Salinas. A tow line was established around 2 a.m. Saturday by tug boats. Salvage teams are monitoring the tow line. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Salvage and fire fighting teams boarded the 561-foot passenger ferry vessel Caribbean Fantasy Friday morning and located the two missing pets deceased near the vessels disembarkation area.
