LOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard rescued a man after his vessel ran aground north west of Santa Cruz Island, Monday. At 6:55 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a Mayday call over VHF ch 16, from the 27-foot sailing vessel Ollie. The 67-year-old man aboard reported that his vessel had run aground and initially provided incorrect coordinates. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles received a report at 8:10 a.m., from the operator aboard the 60-foot sport fisher vessel, Pacific Eagle, of a 47-year-old male suffering from dehydration and other health issues. During the last 48 hours the Coast Guard completed 23 separate searches for Jim Winkler, 62. The searches totaled 1,686 miles within an area of 779 square miles in Charlotte Harbor. During its 12,000 nautical mile patrol, the Escanaba interdicted over 1,200 kilograms of cocaine, 20 kilograms of heroin, and seven suspected narcotics traffickers.
