NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Fire Island rescue crew medically evacuated a man near Fire Island, Saturday.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification at approximately 3:00 p.m., from a 72-foot passenger vessel that reported they had an unconscious 81-year old adult man aboard and requested a medical evacuation.
The passenger vessel also reported they had an emergency medical technician (EMT) aboard who was tending to the needs of the unconscious male.... [Read More]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s assistance Saturday in identifying the owner of a red and yellow kayak found approximately 30 feet from New Smyrna Beach.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received notification of the kayak from a good Samaritan at approximately 2 p.m. A search was initiated for a possible kayaker in distress.... [Read More]

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received the initial report at 2:17 a.m. from the two-person crew with reportedly no injuries.

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued three people from a sinking vessel in Pascagoula Channel, Mississippi, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a radio transmission at 8:13 p.m. from a 57-foot wooden vessel named Lady Nonne that reported they were taking on water.
Coast Guard Station Pascagoula launched a 45-Foot Response Boat and a 24-Foot special purpose craft-shallow water boat. Air Station New Orleans launched a MH-65 Helicopter which located the Lady Nonne and utilized a rescue swimmer who hoisted all three people.... [Read More]

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard has ended the search for possible people in the water near Jones Beach Inlet, Friday.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound ended the search for possible people in the water after it was confirmed by family members that there was only one person aboard the overturned vessel near Jones Beach Inlet.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk crew rescued three people from a sunken jet boat on the Lace River near Berners Bay approximately 36 miles northwest of Juneau Thursday night.
The aircrew hoisted a woman and two men and transported them to awaiting emergency medical personnel on shore in Juneau.... [Read More]

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and local partner agencies are searching for possible survivors after receiving a report of an overturned vessel near Jones Beach Inlet, Friday.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call from a good Samaritan via marine radio Channel-16 reporting an overturned vessel near Jones Beach Inlet.

NORFOLK, Va. -- Cadet Michael Shermot was found guilty of sexual assault, and sentenced today to one year in prison and dismissal from the service by the military judge, Capt. Gary E. Felicetti, at general court-martial.
Shermot, who was found guilty yesterday of violating Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, has the right to appeal his conviction and sentence. He was charged on Dec. 28, 2015, and suspended from the Corps of Cadets for serious misconduct the following day. ... [Read More]

LOS ANGELES — The Captain of the Port will be enforcing a temporary safety zone in the vicinity of the SS Lane Victory, located in San Pedro on September 17, 2016.
Members of Coast Guard Port Security Unit 311 will be conducting a training exercise that will include high speed small boat maneuvers and simulated automatic weapon fire.
The safety zone will remain in effect from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, and will encompass all navigable waters from the surface to the sea floor within a 500 yard radius in the vicinity of the SS Lane Victory.... [Read More]

WASHINGTON — The Coast Guard awarded a contract to Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc., of Panama City, Florida, Thursday for the production of the lead Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) and up to eight follow-on cutters. JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew forward deployed in Kotzebue medevaced a crew member from the French cable laying vessel Isle De Sein approximately 80 miles southeast of Barrow Wednesday evening.

BOSTON — The Coast Guard along with the National Park Service and Boston Harbor now celebrated Boston Light’s 300th year of service, Wednesday at ceremonies at Boston’s Long Wharf and on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor.
