NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, state and local agencies have collected all visible mercury near the Berwick waterfront, Tuesday.
Watchstanders with Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City received a report of less then one cup of silver liquid, resembling mercury inside the levee wall, Monday.
MSU Morgan City, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, along with local police and fire departments will continue to monitor mercury levels of the water and soil near the site.

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard issued a safety zone and temporarily restricted traffic on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway after a barge sank east of the Galveston Causeway railroad bridge Tuesday.
The restriction allows one-way and single-wide barges only, from mile marker 356 to mile marker 357.
The owner has contracted T & T salvage to remove the barge, which was being towed to be scrapped when it sank.

HOUSTON — A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a man and woman showing symptoms of heat exposure, after their 30-foot boat ran aground near Rollover Bay Monday morning.
At about 11 a.m., a friend of one of the boaters notified Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders that they were overdue. The watchstanders launched an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Station Galveston boat crew to search for the person reported overdue.... [Read More]

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard reopened the Houston Ship Channel at 6:35 p.m., after a brief closure from a sulfur dioxide release and shelter in place in Galena Park Monday afternoon.
At about 3:30 p.m., the Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service received notification from Harris County Office of Emergency Management personnel that a shelter in place was issued for the city of Galena Park due to a sulfur dioxide leak at the Pasadena Refinery.... [Read More]

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City received a report around 11 a.m., of a small amount of silver liquid, resembling mercury inside the levee wall.
Marine Safety Unit Morgan City, state and local hazardous material teams responded to the scene.
The source of the release is unknown.

PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard rescued two men after they went missing near Mispillion, Delaware, Monday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a report at about 9 p.m. from a 911 dispatcher stating that a father and son were overdue after the men went boating near Cedar Creek Boat Ramp earlier Sunday afternoon. The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for more than seven hours before locating the missing persons.
Coast Guard Station Indian River located the two men aboard a disabled 20-foot recreational boat at about 4 a.m.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — Coast Guard Captain of the Port closed commercial ports on Oahu to all traffic. All cargo operations in these ports are secured.
Vessels transiting within the vicinity of the Hawaiian Island harbors should seek sheltered waters until storm conditions subside and the COTP has deemed the ports safe to reopen.

LOS ANGELES — The Coast Guard rescued three boaters from their vessel after it began taking on water Saturday near Catalina Island.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call from a 32-foot pleasure craft reporting that it was disabled and out of gas with three individuals aboard. The source also reported that they did not know their location but had left from Long Beach and were heading to Avalon. HOUSTON — Coast Guard crews located and rescued two men after hours of searching about 125 miles southeast of Galveston Saturday.
Rescued are Karl Shram and Chris Bergeron of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Search and rescue coordinators at Sector Houston-Galveston sent Coast Guard cutters, an airplane and a helicopter to search for the men when they used their satellite phone to make a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. They reported their boat was sinking quickly and they were planning to swim to an oil rig nearby.... Missing are Karl Shram and Chris Bergeron of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
