SAULT STE MARIE, Michigan – The U.S. Coast Guard along with personnel from more than 40 partner agencies will come together in the Sault Ste Marie area Thursday to participate in a full-scale law enforcement exercise.
Community members may notice an increase in law enforcement activity along the St. Marys River, Lake Superior State University, International Bridge, CN Rail Yard, Carbide Dock and the Harvey Marina.
Exercise activities will be limited to specific areas and should not significantly impact marine or vehicle traffic.... [Read More]

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard and California State Department of Fish and Wildlife's Office of Spill Prevention and Response continue their response to the overturned Spirit of Sacramento Tuesday after the vessel capsized Sunday in the vicinity of Franks Tract near Bethel Island.
Monday, divers from Global Diving and Salvage, Inc., plugged all fuel vents aboard the vessel and confirmed the position of the vessel on the bottom of the river.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office and ECM Maritime Services have established a unified command to respond to an oil discharge near Bay Long, Louisiana, Tuesday.
The damaged pipeline is isolated. Response crews are determining the best way to safely remove the remaining product from the line.
To date, 74 personnel, 21 boats, 8 skimmers, and approximately 10,000 feet of hard-boom have been deployed to contain and recover the product. Approximately 560 gallons of oily-water mixture have been recovered.... [Read More]

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port reopened the Houston Ship Channel to all vessel traffic at 3:31 p.m. Tuesday.
The Upper Houston Ship Channel was closed at 12:08 a.m., immediately following a bunker fuel spill and fire from the Aframax River, an 810-foot tanker.... [Read More]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two kayakers Tuesday at Little Tybee Island.
A family member reported the kayakers, a 42 and 19-year-old father and son, overdue after not returning at sunset.

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard coordinated with Sea Tow Monday afternoon, to assist six adults and two children off their boat that became grounded and began taking on water near Eagle Point.
"This is our third search and rescue case in 24 hours,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Kiener, watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston. ”We've rescued a total of 12 adults and three children over this Labor Day weekend."... [Read More]
